Day 7: Last Day at Sea & Food Review

Our final day aboard the MSC Meraviglia! We slept in and made it a very chill day at the main pool and bamboo pool areas. In the early afternoon there was a “snow cannon” at the main pool and everyone was dancing and having a blast. (The snow cannon is more like a bubble cannon, but the kids thought it was fun!)

We headed back to the room mid-afternoon, and I began the unenviable task of packing. I can’t understand how we can never get everything back into the suitcases as organized as when I originally packed it all!

We headed to the main dining room for our 5:30pm reservation and our server, Rosalynne was so lovely and took pictures with us for our last meal on board. She was truly a highlight of the week for us.

Kids headed to Kids Club and I went to finish packing and then found some live music and prosecco to wrap up our trip.

Food on MSC Meraviglia

There has been a great deal written online by reviewers and passengers that is super negative about the food on MSC. All I can say is that wasn’t our experience. We didn’t do any specialty restaurants on this trip and stuck to the buffet and main dining room. The selection at the buffet could have been better (and please God tell me where the chicken nuggets were because I never found a single one) but we didn’t take this trip for high end cuisine. The pizza is amazing as many people have said and we at a lot of it. Breakfast was always terrific and there was fresh fruit and plenty of snacks throughout the day to keep the hunger at bay.

Our experience in the main dining room was excellent. The kids menu is a little different from a typical American kids menu but my girls really enjoyed the flank steaks and chicken. Bread was always fresh and abundant. Of the 6 nights we ate in the MDR I had only 1 “miss” of a meal. Our server was always willing to bring something different if we wanted.

One tip for families – we opted for the earliest seating at 5:30pm and we were finished with dinner typically in an hour which was perfect timing to get Grace and Charlie to Kids Club which opened at 7pm. The night we were in port at Ocean Cay was the only night dinner took longer than an hour – we were out in 90 minutes which still wasn’t terrible. By night 2 the servers knew what we were drinking, and it was on the table in seconds after we sat down. I was overall very impressed with the warmth and attention to detail of the servers. One night my littlest spilled a container of catchup all over the table/table cloth and they had it cleaned up immediately (and I was apologizing profusely).

On Gala/White Night there was surf and turf in the main dining room and that night we each had one – the girls don’t like lobster so mama got to eat 3 tails (yum!) and the girls got to eat the filets which were cooked perfectly. So delish!

One other note – on MSC US sailings if you want to order a 2nd entrée there is an upcharge of $5. We never had to do that but there might be folks traveling with picky eaters that might need to order something extra so just FYI.
